MARGAO: Rejecting the people’s demand for realignment, the survey of the land acquired along the National Highway (NH) 66 from Navelim junction to Uskiband is currently underway, and once completed; the State government is likely to submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Central government by March 31.

This has come as a setback to Chinchinim locals who had sought clarity on the alignment first before the work could commence.
A PWD official said that the consultant appointed is in the process of finalising the DPR.
The official said that the estimates will be sent to the Central government for allocation of funds.
He added that once the funds are received, widening work will begin.
When asked about these issues, the official said that the road also includes elevated stretches of the highway, with two minor bridges, adding that there is no scope for changing the existing alignment as demanded by Chinchinim villagers.
With regards to the ongoing survey, the official stated that PWD in the past had acquired land from Navelim to Uskiband along the present alignment of NH 66. The survey is for the entire stretch of nearly seven kms while in some places land has been acquired up to 40 metres.
