Apna Ghar children to get vocational training

PANJIM, JAN 5 A Goa based NGO along with the state government has taken up cudgels to train children from Apna Ghar into vocational training, which will help them eke out living once they leave the shelter.

A Goa based NGO along with the state government has taken up cudgels to train children from Apna Ghar into vocational training, which will help them eke out living once they leave the shelter.
SCAN-India, Government Polytechnic, Altinho and Directorate of Women and Child Development has joined hands in this pioneering project which will cover 37 children spread over three months, who are lodged here.
Officials said that the children would be trained in electricals, artificial jewellery and party decorations. This is the first ever in-house training conducted for the welfare of Children in Apna Ghar.
V P Rao, Secretary, Directorate of Women and Child Development, formally inaugurated this course on Wednesday morning.
Director, Directorate of Women and Child Development, Sanjiv Gadkar, welcomed all the dignitaries and the participants and spoke on the initiatives made by the Department for the children of Apna Ghar.
Pastor Matthew Kurian, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee Inez Carvalho, and Child Welfare Committee Members Meenacshi Martins, spoke on the occasion.
Other dignitaries who were present included Aurolino Oliveira, Juvenile Justice Board Member Prachi Kandeparkar, the Superintendent cum Probation Officer Pramila Fernandes and Director of SCAN-India Audrey Pinto along SCAN- India with the team.
Interestingly, the function was compeered by a child from Apna Ghar and children presented flowers to the dignitaries.
