In notices that were sent recently to all the Parish Priests, residential Chaplains and the Superiors of religious houses, Fr Monteiro said, “It would be most fitting that on this occasion, Parish Priests and residential Chaplains come together with their respective parishioners for our Dear Archbishop as he undertakes this new ministry, which the Holy Father will entrust to him.”

“The Archbishop-Patriarch has written a letter to the People of God in this Archdiocese, asking us to accompany him with prayers as sacrifices, as he proceeds to Rome for the Consistory at which he will be made a Cardinal. The Consistory will take place in St Peter’s Basilica, Rome on August 27, at 16 hours, which corresponds to 7.30 pm (IST),” Fr Monteiro said.

He further suggested that a communitarian prayer service (prayer before the Most Blessed Sacrament) be organised in the Church/Chapel on August 27 or on a day close to it, at a time convenient for the community to assemble.

It may be recalled that the model prayer service had also been released earlier.

“In addition, special prayers for our Pastor are to be encouraged during the family rosary and during the gatherings of small Christian communities. Similarly, religious communities could dedicate some of the communitarian prayer for the well-being of our Archbishop,” Fr Monteiro said.

The Chancellor further announced that on September 15, at 4 pm, the Archbishop-Patriarch will preside over a Eucharistic Celebration in the Cathedral Church, Old Goa.

“This will be an occasion for the Church in Goa to thank the Lord for bestowing the Cardinalate on our Archbishop-Patriarch and to pray for his ministry. All the faithful are welcome to participate in this celebration,” Fr Monteiro said.

A group of senior priests from Goa have also travelled to Rome to witness the historic event personally.
