MARGAO: The gram sabha of Sao Jose de Areal on Sunday has told the panchayat body to challenge the orders of the Director of Panchayats directing the village body to issue occupancy certificates to mega housing projects in the village.
The resolution to file a plea in the South Goa District Court challenging the panchayat director’s order was adopted after Sarpanch Julio Monteiro drew the attention of gram sabha members to the said order to the panchayat secretary, to issue occupancy certificates to the three housing complexes.
The issue of migrants staying in rented rooms in the village also came to the fore at the meeting, with members demanding that the Panchayat collect one month’s rent from the rooms leased out to the tenants. Since the survey conducted by the panchayat body showed that police had failed to carry out verification of the tenants, the meeting resolved to ask the police to complete the exercise at the earliest.
The meeting also resolved to ask the panchayat body to conduct a verification exercise on the ration cards and voting cards, besides illegal business establishments in the village.
The garbage menace at Ramnagar figured prominently at the gram sabha with members demanding that the panchayat initiate action to stop the nuisance. The sarpanch informed that efforts were on to identify a site for disposal of garbage. Members demanded that notice be issued to the Ramnagar residents for creating garbage problem.
Sarpanch Monteiro requested villagers to cooperate in identifying a garbage site in the village as the garbage problem has been increasing with more houses coming up in the village.
The meeting also witnessed a debate on scrap yards, with members drawing attention of the chair to the new scrap yard that has come up in the village. After much discussion, it was decided that the panchayat should write letters to the Goa State Pollution Control Board, Health, TCP and Fire department to submit their reports on the scrap yards in the village.
The villagers also demanded a railway over bridge at Nessai, while a proposal was mooted to build a community hall in the village under the ST Tribal Welfare Scheme.
