MARGAO: In a letter addressed to the Raia Sarpanch and Secretary, Arlem residents have demanded choked drains in their locality be cleaned immediately.
In the letter, the residents informed that the drains along the NH especially on the right side of Margao-Ponda road and also along the route leading to Margao have not been cleaned for the last 2-3 years. They further stated that several incidents have occurred and the people are inconvenienced due to these drains during the monsoons.
“The stinking water from the drains makes its way onto the roads making it very difficult for the people especially school kids to walk on the sides,” complained Albert Pango, a local representing the ward residents.
Recalling an incident wherein a school student got trapped in the drain, Albert says fortunately the kid was rescued but in the bargain the student lost his slippers and school bag.
“This is a matter of serious concern and in my letter I have sought reply from the Panchayat Secretary and Sarpanch as to what steps they plan to take in this matter within 10 days of the receipt of the letter,” Albert added.
