MAPUSA: Mapusa councillor Tarak Arolkar was disqualified as councillor of ward 7 of Mapusa municipal council. He had contested the elections based on an OBC, which was based on forged documents.
Arolkar had contested the Mapusa Municipal Council election from ward 7, which was reserved for OBC. However Francisco Carvalho filed a complaint, claiming that Arolkar’s OBC certificate was obtained by fraud and is based upon manufactured and forged documents. The complaint challenged the OBC certificate issued to Arolkar in March 2021, from the office of the deputy collector, Bardez.
On May 17, 2023, Social Welfare Department’s Scrutiny Committee for Verification of Caste Certificate had ordered the Deputy Collector and SDO Mapusa to cancel the OBC caste certificate issued to the Councillor of Mapusa Municipal Council Tarak Arolkar.
The three-member Scrutiny Committee in its order noted that OBC caste certificate was issued to Tarak Arolkar by the Deputy Collector and SDO Mapusa on March 18, 2021 was based on the birth certificate of Arolkar’s father having registration no. 379/1974 which was purportedly issued by the village panchayat of Raia, Salcete dated July 27, 2018.
