The certificate is a requisite for those wishing to file their candidature for the municipal elections in October. Around 100 aspiring candidates have filed applications till date, with several people doing so even before Ganesh Chaturthi.
With only few days left until they can file their candidatures, a huge crowd of applicants visited the Margao municipality on Monday.
Some election aspirants have already received their certificates and they include: Adhik Shirodkar, Rupesh Mahatme, Raju Shirodkar, Savio Coutinho, Ketan Kurtarkar, Rajan Satarkar, Sadanand Naik, Suchita Malkarnekar.
On Sunday, BJP-backed Raju Shirodkar sought the support of Gogal Housing Board residents while leading a Ganesh immersion procession of Aquem-Vidyanagar. He stated, “I had decided to contest the elections a long time ago and I have strong faith that I will be elected this time.”
Meanwhile, activist Advocate Rajiv Gomes has hoped for a better council. He stated, “I hope that I will have enough citizens with me when I attend the next council meet as it appears that many activists will be contesting the elections.”
Sources informed that the BJP is delaying the announcement of its candidates until its gets rid of its rebels. Additionally, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco may have not entered the arena yet, but he claimed to hold the key to three wards in his territory.
