Around 600 Goan seafarers expected to arrive on June 19

They work for Royal Caribbean International and will be transferred to another ship, which will come to MPT directly

MARGAO: Around 602 Goan seafarers working for Royal Caribbean International are expected to arrive at the Mormugao Port by June 19 when the ship carrying the Indian crew from their various vessels is expected to arrive in India by then. 

The Indian crew will be transferred to the ship called Anthem which began collecting crew members on May 9 and was initially expected to arrive in India on June 3 but the date is now postponed to June 19.

Royal Caribbean International has a total of 2,756 Indians working on the 26 ships that they operate and President and Chief Executive Officer of the company Michael Bayley in a personal letter to all the staff members said the company is committed to transporting them to their home State.

Incidentally, 25,000 crew members have already completed their 14 day quarantine on ship and are now practicing social distancing. The company has people from 60 countries working as crew members.

Michael while revealing the difficulties they are facing in dealing with 60 different rules and regulations from the different countries disclosed that 9,098 crew members have already reached home. While 1,725 Indonesians, 353 Chinese and 1,198 Filipinos went home by ship, others were flown by commercial flights. These include 398 Americans, 389 Mexicans and 5,035 from other 40 countries
