MAPUSA: Munang Assagao residents have objected to the Comunidade decision to set up a kiosk next to Dattatray Devasthan Assagao. The Devasthan Committee of Shree Kshetra Sonarkhed Dattatray Trust Assagao has also rejected the Assagao Communidade decision of setting up a kiosk in the land adjacent to the temple.
Residents claimed that if any type of kiosk comes up next to the temple, then it will hurt the sentiments of the devotees, as the kiosk will sell non-vegetarian food right next to the temple.
Residents and devotees also claimed that if kiosk comes up just at the road side, then there are chances of illegal activities in the area such as gambling, selling of alcohols and even prostitution since Assagao is one of the prime village in the coastal belt and an important route that connects Bardez coastal belt to Pernem.
Residents also claimed that if the Comunidade wants to sell the land, then they can sell it to the Devasthan with proper terms and conditions, since the land adjacent to the temple, is usually used by the temple during festive time.
“We have written several letters and made representations to the authorities but none of them have bothered to take action on this. We even tried to have word with Assagao Comunidade but the Comunidade is not ready to respond,” they added.
