CURCHOREM: Manojkumar Vasant Naik was elected unopposed as sarpanch of Assolda-Xelvona-Xic-Xelvona-Hodar on Wednesday.
The five panchas including deputy sarpanch Succorina Fernandes, Manojkumar Vasant Naik, Sumati Naik, Caitano Floriano Fernandes and Sukash Dessai voted in favour while former Sarpanch Dayanand Naik and Custodio Fernandes remained absent.
Anil Naik, Extension Officer in BDO office Quepem was the presiding officer and conducted the election in the presence of panchayat secretary Shitiza Naik.
It may be recalled that four of seven panchas had moved a no-confidence motion against the then sarpanch Dayanand Naik and on April 12 he was voted out of office by a 4-0 vote margin.
Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral extended his full cooperation to the panchas to undertake and execute pending development works in the area.
According to Cabral, the panchayat elections will not be held as per schedule but most probably will be postponed.
