Chief Minister says the government would work out a solution to the issue

MARGAO: Admitting that heavy metals such as cadmium, nickel and zinc pose a health hazard and can result in long-term poisoning, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday assured people of Cuncolim his government would address the issue of pollution on a priority basis.
“I am devoting my personal attention how to resolve the issue of hazardous waste lying at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate. Like you, people in other parts also raise apprehensions over plans to set up waste disposal facility.
The government would work out a solution to the issue”, he said.
The Chief Minister was responding to a plea made by Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Devendra Desai requesting the government to work out a solution to the long-pending issue of hazardous waste.
“Heavy metals such as zinc, nickel and cadmium are dangerous and pose a health hazard. These can cause harm to the kidneys. It takes 20-30 years for poisoning to take place. You know the donkey who was responsible for getting these hazardous industries in Cuncolim”, he added.
