MARGAO: Strongly opposing lie detector tests for the two boys allegedly involved in the death of Fr Bismarque Dias, Bailancho Ekvott convenor Auda Viegas has termed the move as “the stupidest in a state, which promises justice to juveniles”.
Auda, as a former Juvenile Justice Board member, has called for protecting the privacy and confidentiality of the youth and saying that there is no reason to suspect their integrity.
“The rights of the dead are to be protected. But the fact is that the rights of the living, and that too juveniles, also need to be protected,” said Auda, while calling the 19-year-old equally susceptible to the worries of minors.
She continued, “The children have been talking to the investigating officers for a long time, and having a lie detector test administered to them even after knowing that they haven’t committed the crime is bizarre.”
Auda reiterated that she supports the demand of justice for Fr Bismarque, but is against lie detector tests for children.
