PANJIM: The ground situation remains the same at Mala, Panjim, as the raw sewage from public drains continues to flow at the doorsteps of the people.
It is pertinent to note that a building that houses commercial establishments in Neugi Nagar allegedly discharged raw sewage and also there was a leakage from a Public Works Department’s sewer line which led to raw sewage flowing into the public drains and through public drains it reached at the doorsteps of the people in Mala.

It has raised unbearable stench in the area posing a major threat to the health of the local residents.
“I feel sorry for my brothers and sisters of Mala. Nothing will happen, people will continue walking through sewage. The officials of different departments will hold meetings but there will be no action. The authorities are turning a deaf ear to the appeal made by affected people,” Former Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Councillor Menino da Cruz said.
He said that the government should consider disconnecting the water supply and electricity connections of the buildings, if they are found discharging sewage in public property.
CCP Councillor Narsinvha Morajkar, whose ward is also affected, expressed hope that the situation will improve and be back to normal in the next two days.
“I am told that the PWD has completed the repair work and the sewer line is connected to the Sewage Treatment Plant located at EDC. The situation will improve, we will have to wait and watch for the next couple of days,” Morajkar said.
