Authorities not acting against CRZ violations: CCF

CALANGUTE: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) is not taking serious note of the destruction which has taken place in the no-development CRZ zone close to the beach in Candolim, according to the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF).

The CCF, in a recent letter to the chief secretary and other authorities, said with the GCZMA failing to initiate strict action against such violators, the developers are encouraged to do mass destruction of the beach environment and the competent authorities are equally responsible for such destruction.

All the constructions which were violating the CRZ rules have been completed with no action being taken by the GCZMA, the CCF said, despite notices issued, site inspections conducted, stop work and demolition orders. CCF has listed some of the cases in the recent letter.

“In spite of our continuous follow up with GCZMA, the case matters have not come on board for hearing and such negligence and delay from the authority gave enough of space to the developers to do massive destruction of beach environment,” the CCF said in the letter.
