PANJIM: As the crucial Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting held on Friday failed to identify the dissidents who cross-voted during the Presidental election, a probe has been initiated to find out the moles in the legislator wing.
The CLP leader Chandrakant Kavalekar will be conducting the inquiry to identify the names of four legislators who cross-voted during the Presidental election held on July 17.
“We were not able to identify the names who cross-voted in favour of NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind. I will be conducting the probe now to identify who are they,” Kavalekar told Herald.
“I will submit the report with names to the High Command for necessary action,” he said informing that the decision was taken in presence of AICC Secretary and MP Amit Deshmukh.
Congress has 16 MLAs in the state assembly, however, their candidate Meira Kumar got only 11 votes, indicating cross-voting by 4 and one invalid vote.
“Pratapsingh Rane had told us that he did some mistake while voting,” Kavalekar said.
CLP this morning witnessed a noisy scene with every legislator busy in blame game.
Following the fiasco, Congress issued a whip for the Rajya Sabha election. As such their Rajya Sabha candidate Shantaram Naik got all 16 votes.
