Babush to inspect Panjim fish market over facelift

PANJIM: The newly elected Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserratte along with the officials of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) will next week inspect the city fish market, which is likely to get a major facelift. 
CCP has estimated project worth Rs 22 lakh to renovate the premise which will include proper platforms, tiling, anti-flooding and maintenance measures. 
The MLA has also assured to get sponsorship to undertake works, which are not estimated in the project like proper roofing. 
City Mayor Uday Madkaikar said that Monserratte along with him, CCP Commissioner Shashank Tripathi and other officials will inspect the fish market next week, to understand the requirements, the works that could be done through sponsorship. 
“We have already prepared an estimate of Rs 22 lakh. The tender has been finalized and the same would be issued soon. We initially wanted to complete the work before monsoons but due to election code it could not happen,” he said.
Madkaikar said that currently the market is in a mess and as a result flooding takes place. He said that before monsoon anti-flooding measures would be adopted and also hygiene would be maintained.
The Mayor said that workers would be asked to clean the gutters and drains which have been choked. “Cleanliness will also been taken care off. Currently the market complex is in shambles and every year during the monsoon there is flooding causing inconvenience to the citizens,” he said. 
The Corporation has also decided to bring the entire Municipal market area under CCTV surveillance, for which work order for 38 cameras would be issued soon.
