Babush wishes to contest from Panjim

PANJIM:Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate on Thursday hinted that the CCP elections are a semi-final for his ambitions to get elected from Panjim Assembly constituency.
“I always wanted to contest from Panjim. I feel I am the person who can defeat Parrikar,” Monserrate told Herald on Thursday.
He said he will form his own party and Independent MLAs Vijai Sardesai and Rohan Khaunte and others are going to get together. Monserrate said he will contest from the Panjim Assembly constituency in the coming polls.
“I am looking at the results of CCP polls. If the results are favourable that means it is the wish of the people and I contest the election,” Monserrate said.
He said he did not contest the last by-polls in Panjim because of Surendra Furtado. “There would have been a division of votes. I am not a defeated MLA, I have got my constituency which I am representing,” Monserrate said.
He said that leaving St Cruz constituency midway through the term would have affected his popularity. Monserrate said sentiments were with Parrikar as voters were giving him a farewell and that was the reason BJP was able to retain the Panjim seat.
He said there is no question of deserting St Cruz if he contests from Panjim.
