Bagalkot native booked for rash driving

MARGAO: Against the backdrop of protests held on Monday by the residents of Cortalim over increasing number of accidents on the highway road, the Verna Police arrested an accused from Karnataka, who was involved in a fatal accident that had occurred on Sunday evening. His vehicle has been seized too. 

An offence was registered under Section 279, 338, 304-A IPC against the driver Yalagurdappa Kunnur (26), a native of Bagalkot, Karnataka and has arrested him, and the vehicle has also been seized by the Verna police.

Verna police officials stated that the accident took place on March 13, at around 7 pm on the stretch of the highway, opposite the Cortalim cross.

The police officials added that at this time and location, a person proceeding from Cortalim junction towards Verna direction reportedly drove his car (GA-06-T-5945) in a rash and negligent manner without taking proper care and precaution and further dashed a bike (GA06-B-6699) from behind thus claiming the life of pillion rider Grishma Dessai (52). Rider Govind Desai (57)  also sustained injuries.
