PANJIM: The District Session Court, Mapusa, has granted conditional bail to Ganjendra Singh, alias Chotu, who was arrested by Anjuna police in connection with the shooting case filed by former Anjuna panch Surendra Govekar.
Advocate Kapil Kerkar, representing Singh, told the court that there was no prima facie evidence against his client to even link him to the offence. Kerkar argued that Singh was falsely implicated in the case and that Govekar has also filed 10 to 15 cases against various individuals in Anjuna alleging illegalities that resulted in some establishments being demolished.
Kerkar said that Singh was picked up by Anjuna police from his residence in Calangute on the night of the accident which clearly indicates that he had no role in the shooting.
Singh was arrested by Anjuna Police last week following a complaint from Govekar who was attacked on April 11 at Vagator. Govekar had named Singh and another person in his complaint.
The court has ordered Singh to surrender his passport and not to leave the State.
