PANJIM: The Bailancho Saad has demanded immediate appointment of chairperson and members of the Goa State Commission for Women (GSCW), as these posts are lying vacant for almost a year, thereby making the State body defunct.
The Bailancho Saad made a representation to Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Minister for Women and Child Vishwajit Rane and Chairperson of National Commission for Women, Renuka Sharma, urging all the concerned authorities to ensure the posts are filled and work for gender justice continues.

It highlighted the grave sex ratio of girls dipping to 838 per 1000 males in the latest National Family Health survey. Goa also ranked highest in sex trafficking and the alarming rise in crimes against women and the failure of the redressal system.
“The task of the GSCW is to check on the ground reality, study, prepare reports, table in Assembly for policy, legislation and budget for a plan of action. Several grievances of women which could be resolved have been aggravated, increasing the misery of women,” Convenor, Bailancho Saad Sabina Martins said.
“It has been a trend of delay in appointments of various state bodies, resulting in defeating the very purpose the state bodies were formed,” Martins said.
