VASCO: The High Court of Bombay at Goa hearing the case of demolition of 205 Baina hutments has adjourned it till April 27. The hearing was scheduled on Monday but the matter was heard on Wednesday. The petition was filed challenging the final notices issued to petitioners under Section 4 and Section 6 of the Goa Land (Prohibition of Construction) Act, 1995.
Sources at the Mormugao mamlatdar office informed Herald that the state government who is party in the case will file an affidavit presenting various facts with regards to the demolition of Baina hutments before the High Court on Monday after which the court would pronounce its decision.
On April 15, after demolishing 84 houses at Desterro on April 15, the state government was set to demolish these 205 illegal shanties; however, the Baina Residents Welfare Association and other residents approached the High Court seeking relief before the state administration could demolish their structures and while hearing the PIL, Justice FM Reis and Justice KL Wadane stayed the demolition for seven days.
