MARGAO: The district authorities on Monday reviewed the pendency of applications received by the administration for the rehabilitation of the displaced persons from Baina.

Chaired by the district Magistrate, N D Agrawal, the meeting took stock on the number of applications awaiting disposal in view of the writ petition filed by a NGO in the High Court over the pendency of the applications.

“We have only reviewed the pendency of applications received for rehabilitation. I have made it clear to the Rehabilitation Board, the Mormugao Municipal Council and the Women’s Commission that it would amount to contempt of court if the applications were not disposed of immediately,” Agrawal told medial persons after the meeting.

Replying to a question, he said the administration had received a number of applications for rehabilitation after the government came out with a scheme for persons displaced by the operation in Baina.
