Balrath employees defer strike

PANJIM: The United Balrath Employees Union (UBEU) on Friday, the fourth day of their strike, have deferred the agitation following an assurance by the Goa Headmasters Association (GHA) and the Education Department.

“We were waiting for some response from the authorities for the past many years and today we have got some response. The Goa Headmasters Association contacted our union today and assured us that they will initiate the process to help the balrath employees,” activist Swati Kerkar said.
“With the help of the GHA President Vilas Satarkar a meeting was held at Panjim and at the end of the meeting it was concluded that we put forward the union’s demands before the concerned authorities,” she added.
Stating that GHA and Education Department have assured that the matter would be looked into on a priority, UBEU has decided to defer the strike and has given the authorities till November 20 to accept at least the two main demands of salary hike and regularisation of services.
