Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) has strongly objected to the use of FLAs in Goa as traditional fishermen and small boat owners will be destroyed. GRE claims that once people start using this then in two months all the fish in the sea will be exhausted leaving nothing to small canoe owners.
“The countries where such lights are being used have no traditional fishermen but still people there follow a law of maintaining a certain catch in a year and don’t exceeds their limits. We should not try to introduce methods which will put us into a situation where there will be no fish in waters and if there is no fish in the sea the same would be sold like gold. The Fisheries department is not taking serious action to stop such activity, especially bull trawling. I presume that our Fisheries minister has never ventured to sea and has no knowledge of our sufferings. We will not allow this to happen and if the same is not stopped then all canoe owners and others will take to the streets,” GRE president Agnelo Rodrigues said.
