Bandora gram sabha demands underpass at KTC junction

PONDA: The Bandora villagers adopted a resolution at the gram sabha on Sunday for construction of an underpass at dangerous KTC bus stand junction.
While adopting the resolution, the villagers said that without the underpass or some safety measures, it would be risky to open the four lane road for traffic. It was also decided to send a copy of the resolution to the chief minister, PWD minister, Archaeological Survey of India.
It may be recalled that the seven-km four lane stretch from Khandepar to KTC bus stand Ponda is almost ready and is awaiting inauguration since past few months.  However, no passage is provided or arrangement is made for Bandora villagers to proceed towards the KTC bus stand and Chirputem locality.
The PWD could not construct the underpass at this junction as Archaeology Department refused its approval for and underpass here as the junction is close to the ancient Safa Masjid which is a heritage site.
The gram sabha also adopted a resolution to inspect the parking of vehicles opposite the Sanatan Santha building at Ramnathi. The locals are opposed to parking along roadside at Ramanthi and the inspection is scheduled on August 2, at 11 am wherein deputy collector, traffic police, Ponda police and Bandora Sarpanch would be present.
