PANJIM: Bardez was shocked with a second murder in a fortnight on Tuesday, when locals discovered the body of a young woman on a pathway in an isolated stretch at Salvador do Mundo. The woman, later identified as Sunita Lamani, aged 22 years, was returning home after dropping her niece at the anganwadi.
Porvorim police said part of her head had abrason marks indicating that she was hit by a blunt weapon that resulted in her death. The post mortem report has confirmed the abrason on the head and some injury marks on the body that could be a result of a scuffle with her murderer.
PI Rajesh Kumar conceded the case is a blind murder as they are yet to get any clues to zero in on the accused.
“We are looking out for clues through our investigation and speaking to people who could give us possible leads. As of now, we are yet to find any motive for the killing,” he told Herald.
The body was found lying on the pathway at an isolated stretch of Salvador de Mundo. A gold chain was missing, however, the earrings were found on the body. Police have recovered evidence. Her mobile phone and slippers were found next to the body.
“She had dropped her niece to the anganwadi and was on her way home when she was attacked,” Kumar said.
The victim’s family, hailing from the lower working class, has been residing in Goa for the last 20 years. Their statement was recorded after the murder.
Porvorim had witnessed another murder in recent days when a 73-year-old woman was hacked to death at her home in Betim. Four persons were then arrested.
