VASCO: Pioline Barretto, 65, a barge owner from Vasco and resident of Chicalim sustained serious injuries in a head on crash near Pai Hospital at Vaddem in Vasco on Saturday evening. According to the police, the accident occurred at about 4.20 pm when the driver of a speeding tipper truck while attempting to come on the main road from the internal road leading to Merces Vaddem dashed against the Honda Dio scooter being ridden by Barretto who was proceeding in the opposite direction. The tipper was proceeding towards Chicalim while the two wheeler rider was proceeding towards Vasco from Chicalim.
“The tipper driver took sudden turn towards the main road from the wrong side and collided against a two wheeler in a head on crash injuring the two wheeler rider. As the victim was personally known to me, without wasting any time, I shifted him to the Cottage hospital at Chicalim, from where the victim was shifted to Chicalim based private hospital and his condition is stable” said Raymond Desa, an eyewitness to the accident and President of Goa Barge Owners Association.
Police have registered the case of motor vehicle accident. The tripper driver who ran away from the site later surrendered before the Vasco police who sent him for medical examination, Head Constable Santosh Bhatkar is further investigating into the case.
