A cargo barge lost control and crashed into the fishing boats stationed at Kharewada, Vasco on Sunday. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, the collision resulted in significant damage to the fishing boats, causing substantial financial losses for their owners.
On Sunday a barge lost control and crashed into the fishing boats at Kharewada. As per the boat owner, a barge ship owned by Sesa Ghor came drifting towards boats that were stationed at the dock.

“We’ve put our boats on hold and haven’t used them in a while for a variety of reasons. We’re having a hard time because of a shortage of labour and diesel subsidies. Furthermore, a Sesa Ghor-owned barge ship drifted in and collided with our boats. We are paying for the accident even though I’m not sure exactly what went wrong—whether it was an engine failure or something else. The boats are constructed of wood, and there has been enormous damage,” said Simon Pereira, launch owner.
Around 6-7 boats were damaged in this incident. The owners questioned the accountability for the situation. They demanded compensation for their damages from the concerned authorities. “We demand compensation for the damage from the respective company. I also ask the concerned authorities to come and visit the site to check the estimated loss” lamented Pereira
