Basilica of Bom Jesus to remain closed for visitors on November 8

The Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa will be closed to tourists and visitors on November 8 for a special religious service. Only early morning Masses in Konkani will be held. Story:

The Basilica of Bom Jesus will remain closed to tourists and visitors on Saturday, November 8, 2025, due to a special religious service being held inside the church. Morning Masses in Konkani will take place at 6 am and 7 am as usual, but the 8 am English Mass stands cancelled. A private service for special invitees is scheduled at 10.30 am.
The Basilica authorities have also urged visitors and pilgrims to remain cautious between November 10 and November 23, as work to erect the pandal and other arrangements for the Novena and Feast of St Francis Xavier will be underway.
The notice was issued by Fr Patricio Fernandes SJ, Rector of the Basilica, advising all government authorities, hotels, taxi operators, and tour guides to inform visitors accordingly.
