The high-profile case regarding the disqualification of four panch members of the Rumdamol-Davorlim village panchayat has taken a new turn, with the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Salcete resuming re-hearings following court directions. The case stems from allegations of favouritism levelled by complainant Mukesh Naik against the four members. The panch members named in the proceedings are Mubina Bi Faniband (Ward 9), Mohammed Samiulla Faniband (Ward 3), Mohammed Mustafa Dodmani (Ward 4), and Zubeda Bi Abudakar Agaskar (Ward 5).
They had earlier been disqualified by the BDO after a detailed inquiry upheld Naik’s complaint of bias and misuse of authority. However, the panchas challenged the decision before the court, which subsequently directed the BDO to conduct a re-hearing and give both sides an opportunity to present their arguments afresh. Confirming the development, Salcete BDO Adarsh Dessai said, “The first hearing after the court’s order has already been conducted, and the matter has now been adjourned to September 23 for the next round of proceedings.”
