MARGAO: The NSS unit of the V M Salgaocar College of Law, Margao, under the guidance of the college faculty conducted a beach cleanliness drive at Benaulim on September 15.
This zeal to clean in interest of public was supported by Gregory and Clive, in collaboration with the project cell of Corporation City of Panaji, which handles Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan for Panaji city.
A rally of the students of the NSS unit Salgaocar college of Law, under the guidance of faculties Aamod Shirali, Shruti Dalal and Fouzia Rizvi, were flagged off from the college campus at 8:45am and reached the beach by 9:00am on Friday.
The students also shouted slogans to make people aware of the cleanliness drive and to promote Nitol Goem. The double-sided placards spoke for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and also made people aware of traffic rules and regulations.
Upon reaching the beach, the 50 students were briefed about the modus operandi of cleanliness and were divided into four groups, that segregated glass, tin, twigs, paper and plastic found on the beach and adjoining areas.
A wide stretch of the beach from the high mast to the one opposite Sharda Mandir was cleaned of all debris and hazardous waste. The activity was aided and sponsored by Vinod Shirodkar, proprietor and distributor of Real Drinks Pvt limited.
Students segregated seven bags of glass bottles and tin, despite the fact that drinking on the beached is prohibited. They also collected four bags of plastic, five bags of twigs and one of paper.
Students and faculty evinced satisfaction at their contribution towards cleanliness on the beach and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
