PANJIM: The whistleblower on beach dustbin scam has appealed to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to direct the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) to act on the report by the former Lokayukta on the scam.
Lokayukta P K Misra, who retired in September, had recommended that a high ranking ACB officer inquires into the alleged irregularities and find the ‘liability or culminability’ on any individual person. The Ombudsman had also stated that ACB would be free to take any action including criminal action in accordance with the law.

“I request you to kindly give necessary directions to ACB to conduct free and fair investigation in the above report,” NGO Hope Foundation’s Inacio Domnick Pereira said in a letter to the Chief Minister.
The week when Lokayukta Misra passed crucial orders against the politicians, allegedly involved in corruption, he also recorded another order in the irregularities in the purchase of dustbins installed across beaches.
“A high-ranking officer of ACB should make an inquiry in the light of observation made in this report. Thereafter, appropriate actions, including litigation of prosecution should be taken,” he had stated.
The Chief Minister had lately given his nod for an investigation by the ACB in the alleged “Labour Gate” scam related to misappropriation of the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Welfare Fund.
Misra, in an order passed on September 16 had directed ACB to file a FIR against ‘unknown’ persons for conspiracy to ‘siphon’ out funds of the BOCW Welfare Funds and against those who fraudulently received benefits of the fund.
Pereira urged the Chief Minister to take a similar decision in the case of the purchase of dustbins.
