MAPUSA: Minister for Waste Management Michael Lobo has announced that the Water Resources Department (WRD) would renovate and beautify a 1.5 km long bundh in Candolim at cost of Rs 3.68 crore. The work order has been issued and the project would be completed in the next 14 months.
Lobo informed that once the work of the bundh is completed it would be handed over to the Candolim Panchayat, which would be responsible for its maintenance.
“The tourists who frequent the spot can be charged a nominal fee, which could be used for the maintenance of the bundh. While locals would be allowed to visit the spot free of cost,” he said.
He informed that the government was waiting for the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report for constructing the jetty at the bundh. He also pointed out that the jetty could be used for small boats carrying a maximum of 12 passengers.
