MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Saturday said the recent shortage of beef is artificially created by the Bharatiya Janata Party government and said it is in indicator of the intolerance that has come to fore all over the country since the BJP came to power in May 2014.
Briefing media persons he said he has already written to the chief minister about this matter and asked him to stop pandering to the cow vigilantes who he said is using the government as mice to carry out its divisive agenda.
He pointed out that Manna Bepari President of All Goa Qureshi Meat Traders Association had said that beef traders are being harassed every where even though they have valid documents and licenses to transport the animals.
He said the beef shortages are “manufactures” to suit divisive agenda of the BJP and said the government is in cahoots with the so called cow vigilantes and accused the government of merely paying lip service to protection of cows.
He said he has a letter from the chairman of Makhi Panhari Dudh Utpadak Society in Sattari revealing open markets of animals taking place and asking him to raise up the matter in the assembly.
Reginaldo also accused the Animal Husbandry minister of telling lies even on the floor of the House that there was no beef shortage in Goa during 2017 Christmas.
