Residents of Benaulim on Thursday morning strongly objected to the construction of a drain by the PWD along a three-meter road near Patrocin Chapel.
Benanulim Sarpanch Carmelina Fernandes said the drain work would narrow down the existing road, adding that the Panchayat body was not informed about the ongoing work.
Saying that the Panchayat was not informed of the work, she said that some persons apparently wanted to convey an impression that the Panchayat is not doing any work. “This appears pure politics to put the panchayat body in bad light”, Carmelina said and warned that the people are ready to get themselves arrested and sit in jail, but will not allow the drain to take shape.
Residents also joined the Sarpanch in opposing the drain construction. They sought to know how the authorities were constructing the drain by reducing the road width.
