Bengaluru man killed, three injured after car falls off Highway at Tisk-Usgao

Driver loses control over the vehicle while negotiating sharp turn; locals call for crash railings to be installed along the stretch

PONDA: A 31-year-old Bengaluru resident was killed after his car rolled off the Mollen-Ponda National Highway at Bhumikanagar Tisk Usgao. Vinod Kumar Krishnapaa, 31, died on spot, while the three other occupants of the car, also from Bengaluru, were badly injured and rushed to hospital. Krishnapaa was

driving from Bengaluru to Goa, when he lost control of the vehicle and went off

the road, overturning at a distance of around 15 metres from the highway.

The fatal accident occurred at around 11.30 am.

The car was found in a mangled condition, upside down. According to sources, the driver’s neck and head was compressed, and he sustained major injuries, leading to his death.

Usgao locals Suraj Garad and others demanded that the government install crash barrier railings onthe edge of the road, on the sharp turn at Bhumikanagar.

Garad said vehicles often increase speed on this bypass Highway, and many of them lose control over their vehicles while negotiating the sharp turn. Earlier, several accidents have been reported at the spot, after drivers of heavy vehicles lost control at the turn.

“At least now, the government should install railings along the road, at least on the sharp turn, to save precious lives. Since 2018, the locals have been demanding railings on the highway at Bhumikanagar, Usgao, but so far, nothing has happened,” he added.
