MARGAO: Nuvem MLA Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco received a hero’s welcome on Saturday when he returned home to Betalbatim.
Surrounded by family, friends and supporters the Goa Vikas Party supremo wasted no time in announcing he would field candidates in all 40 constituencies in the 2017 Assembly elections.
“Seven years of Congress and three and a half years of BJP government there is no difference. I will now rethink whether to continue my support to the government. I will start work and planning strategies for the 2017 elections from Monday and will field candidates in all 40 constituencies of Goa in the coming election,” Pacheco announced.
“The National parties only promise and deliver nothing to the local people. We won’t tolerate this from now onwards. We have several options before us,” he added.
Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said “Begging for money and investment all over the world won’t help us. We will have to create our own avenues.”
On July 17, 2014, the High Court of Bombay at Goa had sentenced Pacheco to undergo six months imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1,500 for assaulting junior electricity engineer Kapil Natekar in 2006. On March 30, 2015, the Supreme Court upheld the order and dismissed Pacheco’s special leave petition.
On April 9, this year the JMFC issued a warrant of arrest against him and on May 6 a notice of proclamation was issued, which was to expire on June 4.
He surrendered three days before this.
Pacheco had moved application for remission of his jail period for the work he did at the bakery in Sada Jail.
