Betalbatim locals moves court for FIR on migrant death

MARGAO: Dunstan D’Costa has filed an application before the Judicial Magistrate First Class at Margao praying for a direction to the police to register a First Information Report in the matter of the death of a migrant in Betalbatim last year. He has also asked the court to monitor the investigation till the charge-sheet is filed.
In his application, D’Costa stated that a native of Satara Maharashtra died in mysterious circumstances and was buried in a cemetery of the church of Betalbatim even though he was not a Christian and further pointed out that there was no ID proof and the medical certificate was issued by a Homeopathic doctor.
Alleging that the father’s name of the deceased mentioned in the certificate appears to be fictitious, D’Costa said he along with other villagers had complained to the police about this matter on March 6, 2018 and as no action was forthcoming sought documents under the Right to Information.
Pointing out that the deceased was buried after sunset at around 7 pm in a hush-hush manner, he further stated that the deceased was living in Goa without any documents and had not submitted the required documents to the owner of the house in which he was living.
Pointing out that the police did not act even on the direction of the Collector to investigate the matter, he has now sought a direction from the court to the police to investigate the case.
