MARGAO: Betalbatim Sarpanch Esperance Fernandes on Wednesday said the panchayat would defend the interest of the village in the appeal filed by the real estate developer against the Panchayat’s order rejecting the construction file.
She told Herald that the Panchayat, at its meeting held last month, had decided to engage a lawyer from the village, to defend the interest of the village in the appellate court.
“The decision to engage a lawyer in the case was taken by the Panchayat at its meeting held last month and not on Tuesday,” she said.
Replying to a question, she said the Panchayat had rejected the construction file of the builder on various grounds, adding that the Panchayat has already taken a resolution against mega housing projects in the village.
