PANJIM: Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that had initiated a probe into the recent food poisoning case in which 16 students of a government primary school fell sick after consuming the midday meal on March 22, found that the food was contaminated.
The FDA report reveals that the control sample and samples collected from the leftover food, were found to be contaminated. The examination also found a foul odour and strands of hair in the sample of the midday meal. Surprisingly, the report points out that the samples collected from the kitchen of the self help group (SHG) were found to be safe.
Speaking to Herald, Education Director G P Bhat said, “We have received the report which says that the food was contaminated. FDA has also issued a show cause notice to Gayatri Mahila Mandal (SHG) seeking a reply of why their licence should not be cancelled. Meanwhile, we have appointed a new SHG Mahila Utkarsh on temporary basis to provide midday meals for the Government Primary School at Alto-Betim.”
The FDA report asks Education Department to discontinue the services of Gayatri Mahila Mandal group.
