VALPOI: The Bhironda gram sabha on Sunday discussed issues relating to illegal stone crusher, migrants, toilet, water, government schemes and gutters.
Complaining that an illegal stone crusher was causing dust and sound pollution in the village, locals demanded that it be shut down.
Answering questions on the illegal stone crusher, Sarpanch Nitin Shivdekar said that the panchayat did not give licence for running the stone crusher and the owner was not paying tax to the panchayat.
The villagers brought to the attention of the gram sabha that migrants from Hubli and other parts of Karnataka have occupied government lands at Ansulem illegally and constructed house there. Following this, the gram sabha directed the panchayat to take action against those who have built houses illegally on government lands.
Lack of maintenance of gutters and roads were also discussed at the meeting and the panchayat was directed to do the needful in this respect.
Zilu Gaonkar, a villager, pointed out that though the Art and Culture Department has many schemes for traditional artists, they were not availed by the traditional artists, of who the taluka has many. Therefore, he suggested that the panchayat conduct an awareness programme on these schemes.
People demanded supply of clean water by tankers as presently they are supplied unclean water.
The villagers demanded that those building new houses make provision for toilets and asked the panchayat not to issue licence and occupancy certificates to houses that do not have toilets. The gram sabha was attended by around 50 villagers.
