PONDA: Bhoma Adkon Sarpanch Sunil Bhomkar and panchas welcomed Sudin Dhavlikar’s support for his brother Deepak in Priol but opposed his interference and hurdles in the construction of the Banastarim market.
“If Sudin objects use of tribal fund for Banastarim market construction then he and his brother Deepak should explain why they failed to do it from the general fund when they were in power,” Bhomkar said.
The media was addressed by Sarpanch Bhomkar, Deputy Sarpanch Varsha Naik, Panchas, including former Deputy Sarpanch Shailesh Naik.
“Sudin is Marcaim MLA but is interfering in Priol. The construction for the Banastarim market is being carried out through the Tribal fund of Central Government and not through Goa government. The market will generate income for the local panchayat while farmers from Priol, Ponda and Tiswadi will be able to sell their goods,” said the Bhoma Adkon sarpanch.
Shailesh Naik, a panch, warned that Sudin’s interference in development of Priol will not be tolerated. “We will not put up with Sudin’s meddling. We do not object his political support to his brother,” said Naik.
Sarpanch Sunil Bhomkar said Sudin Dhavlikar is disturbed with development works in Priol.
“Sudin is instigating people against the project by claiming that the Banastarim market is being constructed through the ST fund. As per norms if a project is built through the ST fund, then the benefits/income cannot be used by the general public. He is instigating people by confusing people between the ST fund and the Central fund,” Bhomkar said, adding that it hardly matters for the panchayat and the locals from where the funds come as long as the market in completed.
“Banastarim Market has history behind it. It is used not only by locals and vendors of Tiswadi, Ponda and surrounding talukas but is also visited by Goans especially during the famous Ganesh Chaturthi Matoli Bazaar. All this while, the market had no overhead shed and vendors use to sell their goods braving the sun and rain. It should not be opposed by the Dhavalikar brothers,” said Deputy Sarpanch Varsha Naik
It may be recalled that Sudin had criticised the government for undertaking the renovation/reconstruction work of Banastarim Market from ST fund.
