Bicholim Congmen detained for protesting bad road conditions

BICHOLIM: The local police on Saturday detained Congress workers from Bicholim, who slept on the road protesting the bad road conditions.

The protest was led by Bicholim Block Congress Committee President Meghashyam Raut. The workers shouted slogans on the bridge at Par, Assonora and later slept on the road denouncing the government for its failure to take up the road repairs.

“Today on Gandhi Jayanti we have resorted to non-violence. This is an attempt to wake up the government as in the entire State the condition of roads is very bad,” Raut said.

“There are many people who have been killed in road accidents caused due to these potholes. It is surprising that the government is not bothered about anyone. The Chief Minister, Health minister and Speaker commute along the road and still they have not bothered to repair this road.” Raut claimed.

Raut accused the government of being insensitive to the demands of the common man.

It may be recalled that the Congress had earlier protested the condition of road near the Assonora Bridge following which the potholes were temporary filled. But soon the condition worsened.
