Bicholim farmers seek crop protection

MAYEM: Farmers from Keri, Rawan, Poriem and other areas, under the ambit of Anjunem dam area, on Thursday requested Bicholim Deputy Collector Biju Naik to undertake precautionary measures to prevent their cultivations from being destroyed by wild animals, especially the bison.
After the farmers submitted a memorandum highlighting their requests, Deputy Collector Naik assured the farmers to undertake remedial measures to protect their cultivations.
It may be recalled that about 25 farmers on Wednesday blocked road at Don Maad, Kerim, in protest against lackadaisical attitude of the authorities concerned and political representatives to find out remedial measures to protect their farms. Later, the Bicholim deputy collector along with the mamlatdar visited the site and assured the farmers to look into the matter.
Accordingly, a delegation of farmers met the deputy collector on Thursday and submitted the memorandum. The deputy collector during the meeting suggested that power fencing will be the best option to tackle the problem along with other similar options.
