BICHOLIM: While there is sufficient potable water in Bicholim, many have complained of inadequate water supply to their fields.
“There was no water since the last two days, but we finally got water at Bharatwado-Poira on Tuesday,” informed Chitrali Gaonkar of Poira-Bicholim.
“PWD is not doing anything in this matter and this is the second time we have experienced this difficulty. Earlier, the mining companies used to supply water through tankers, but now we are not getting it,” added Gaonkar.
Dinesh Sahastrabuddhe from Velgaum said there is no drinking water problem in Pale and surrounding area. “This year, even though there is no drinking water problem in the area, we are facing problems for fields.”
“We used to get water from the mining pits for fields and farmers from Velgaum, Surla and Pale were dependent on it. But due to a halt in mining operations, companies did not pump out water and farmers in the area are suffering from poor supply to their fields,” Sahastrabuddhe told Herald.
