BICHOLIM: Bicholim Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit on Thursday inspected the mining pits at Shirgao which pose danger to the villagers during the monsoon.
Speaking to the media persons, Pandit said they are constantly holding meetings and inspections of these mines to prevent the water from overflowing from these pits. Earlier, there have been several instances wherein these pits had given way during the monsoon damaging the property of the locals.
The worst affected among these villages include Lamgao, Mulgao and Shirgao. As these villages are low-lying areas, there is always a danger of the mining pits giving way during monsoon.
WRD Assistant Engineer K P Naik, Mines Manager of Chowgule and Bandekar Mines visited Poira and Shirgao mines to ascertain the water level in these pits.
“The committee formed by the State government had already inspected the pits and it is the responsibility of WRD to pump out the water from them,” Pandit said.He said the situation in Bicholim is quite good and WRD is also assisted by the mines managers of the companies.
He said they have convened several meetings and are monitoring the situation for the upcoming monsoon.
