PANJIM: After missing out on the July 2017 deadline, Goa government is set to introduce two-wheeler ambulances next week to deal with casualties in the tourism belt. In all 50 such ambulances will be deployed in the State over the next six months.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane told Herald that in the first phase 25 bike ambulances will be launched at the hands of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, next week. “Another 25 ambulances will be on road in another six months,” he said.
The Minister said that para-medics will ride these two-wheeler medical ambulances which can reach the accident or casualty spot in record time. “The basic idea behind launching these two-wheeler ambulances is to reduce the response time to the minimum. Apart from the coastal areas, we will identify the hot-spot to deploy these ambulances,” he said.
Facilities like oxygen cylinder, injections required to stabilise the patient would be mounted on these two-wheelers, Rane said further.
“Karnataka has already introduced such ambulances and now Goa will be the second State. But the design of the ambulances is different from Karnataka,” he stated.
Six new cardiac ambulances (four-wheeler) will also be launched in the State shortly. The ambulances will be fitted with equipment needed to stabilise a person who suffers from a cardiac arrest. “Cardiac ambulances will be first of its kind in the State,” Rane said.
