PANJIM: The government on Wednesday introduced a bill in the House abolishing appeal from judgement or order of single bench of High Court of Bombay at Goa to the division bench to reduce the pendency of the cases.
The bill The Goa High Court (Hearing of Writ Petitions by Division Bench and Abolition of Letters Patent Appeals) Bill, 2013 was introduced on the Floor of the House by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
“In view of mounting arrears in the High Court of Bombay at Goa and to discourage further litigations in the same Court and to give finality to the decisions of the court it is necessary to abolish appeals against the single bench orders,” the bill reads.
The bill is on lines of the Maharashtra High Court (Hearing of writ petitions by Division bench and abolition of letters patent appeals) act, 1986.
The new bill however will not be applicable for the appeals which are already pending before the High Court of Bombay.
Government also introduced the Goa Co-operative Societies (amendment) bill 2013.
