The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa, on Wednesday extended the police custody of terminated Panchayat Secretary Raghuvir Bagkar by seven days in connection with the Birch fire case.
Bagkar was arrested earlier after the court dismissed his anticipatory bail application in the Arpora nightclub fire case. Following his arrest, the police sought custodial interrogation to further investigate his alleged role in the incident.
Granting the extension, the court allowed investigators additional time to question the accused and gather evidence linked to the fire. Police informed the court that further interrogation was necessary to establish the sequence of events and the extent of Bagkar’s involvement.
The Birch fire case has drawn significant attention, with multiple arrests and legal proceedings underway. Further investigation in the matter is continuing.
