PANJIM: The Goa Su-Raj Party has alleged that both Congress and the BJP are both part and parcel and or partners in ‘Match-Fixing’ on Mopa.

Criticizing a recent statement of Congress MP Shantaram Naik, the party asked as to why North and South Goa need to be serviced with international airports, even if they were feasible?

The Goa Su-Raj Party also welcomes fishing ban relaxation on motorized canoes pointing out that the fishing ban during the monsoons [the fish breeding season] that existed prior to 1961 were total, considering that there were only non-motorized canoes in existence then.

“The only fishing that used to take place during the erstwhile Portuguese rule was through fishing rods,” it said arguing that this was why Goa had abundant fish. “Goans must applaud the powers that be who take pride in instituting ‘bans’ which are not ‘bans’ at all,” it says.

The Party has also reacted to the report on tar balls, informing that it had, several years ago informed the government of Manohar Parrikar who had appointed a ‘one man commission’ on the Miramar Beach Privatization Project  ~ a project which was ultimately  shelved ~ that the rampant tar-balls on our Goan beaches is the result of the super tankers discharging their COW [Cold Oil Wash] in the Arabian Sea in order to render their tanks certified ‘clean’ on arrival at loadports in the Gulf region.

“The preferred section of the seas to discharge the unwanted oil-wash was midway from Cape Comorim and the entrance to the Gulf,” it alleged arguing that the Navy cannot detect this discharge and penalize the tankers.
